How to Replace Wine With a Smoothie

After a long hard work day (week?) a lot of us reach for the wine. I love myself a glass of red wine with good friends. Girl talk, pinot noir, laughs, late nights...some of the best things in life. Yesterday I had a long exhausting day and instead of craving a glass of wine, I wanted chocolate..more specifically a chocolate smoothie. With some type of nut butter. And a banana. And some warming spices. I just wanted goodness in a glass...healthy, delicious goodness. I stopped off at Juice Press, my new fav vegan, raw cafe in NYC. I ordered a chocolate smoothie called heaven on earth and it had almond butter, cacao, dates, bananas, cinnamon and almond milk. It was just what I needed to send my chocolate cravings to the hills while keeping my drink healthy and clean. There nothing almond butter, chocolate and fruit can't cure.

I made my own version of the recipe this morning and I wanted to share it.
1 frozen banana
1.5 tbsp of cacao powder
2 scoops of vanilla protein powder
2 tbsp of almond butter
Pumpkin pie spice
1 cup of oat milk
A few ice cubes
2 tbsp of maple syrup
Blend everything well and sit back and enjoy this goodness. This makes a great happy hour drink, after dinner drink, breakfast smoothie and post workout meal. The great thing about smoothies is you can have them anytime, anywhere. Totally vegan, gluten free, clean eating, antioxidant filled drink of yumminess.
Feel free to add dates, I ran out of them. Also sub the almond butter with another nut butter. You can also add 1/2 avocado.
Have a happy weekend. Stay safe on Halloween, grab some vegan chocolates and put on your fav costume! It's going to be a cold weekend in NYC but that still won't stop me from rocking around town with one of my Philly friends!

Peanut Butter Vanilla Oat Milk Smoothie

I love trying new plant-based milks even though I usually buy West Soy unsweetened soy milk. I go for milks that have the least amount of ingredients and are organic. West Soy unsweetened plain soy milk is organic soybeans and water. Beautiful. If I don't buy milk, I make it myself, either almond or oat milk. Yesterday I bought oat milk and it is DELICIOUS!

Chewy Energy Bars (no added sugar, vegan, gluten-free)

Energy bars with lot of fiber, minimal sugar and high protein are a great snack. I grab and just go and I feel full for the time that I'm out and about and I need to get things done. I love a few brands of energy bars but I also love making my own-it's easy to choose what ingredients go in them and you can make a bunch and freeze These particular bars are without sugar by default since I ran out of maple syrup. They are still so delish!

How to Make Fluffy Basmati Rice

I'm always and forever trying to make rice like they make at Indian or Persian restaurants. It's so delicious, fluffy and flavorful and I love the texture of basmati rice. So, I was talking to a friend who makes rice alot and he helped me with the recipe. The idea is to sautee the rice first and add ingredients that will give it flavor such as garlic, onion, spices etc. I serve the rice with beans or tofu, either sauteed or in a curry sauce. Rice is just so amazing, it's simple but nutritious and is a great alternative to bread or other grains.
