First, I soaked some oats in water overnight. I do this when I make oat milk so I did it for oatmeal. We are learning in IIN that it's important to rinse your grains before consuming to help your body absorb all the nutrients. This morning I rinsed the oats and scooped 1 cup of oats into boiling water. I made oat milk with the rest of the soaked oats.
I kept stirring the oats as they cooked. I waited until most of the water was absorbed before I poured the oats into my bowl. I added the following to the oats
1 tbsp of agave nectar
1/4 cup of coconut milk
2 tbsp of peanut butter
1 cup of fresh strawberries
1 tbsp of chia seeds
Stir everything into the oatmeal and enjoy.
Some variations: one serving of oats is 1/2 cup of dry oats. You could measure out just one serving. Add almond butter or walnuts, flaxseed meal, goji berries or cacao nibs. There's so many awesome, healthy foods you can add to your oats.
